Overview

Many managers evolve into positions through technical experience, length of service and product knowledge without having the privilege of any formal leadership and management training.  This range of training programmes will enable the team to develop their management knowledge and ensure that the company trades ethically and with integrity in relation to legislation and policy.  It will also develop leadership skills to enable themselves and others to improve personal effectiveness.

Who will the course benefit?

The following courses are proposed for all existing and new managers.

Course content

New and Existing Management – Initial 3 day programme – STEP 1

Embracing the Equalities Act 2010 – 1 day

At the end of the day delegates will be able to:

  • The business case for having an Equality Policy
  • Improve your knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for your role
  • To raise awareness of how we can encompass diversity into our Everyday roles.
  • Define diversity, equality and dignity and its importance
  • Know how the Equalities policy affects the cycle of employee from workforce planning to exit
  • Understand the difference between bullying and firm management
  • Know the procedure for non-compliance
  • Understand why we monitor and take action

Understanding Health and Safety – 1 day

At the end of the day delegates will be able to:

  • Understand and list current legislation and industry regulations relating to health, safety and welfare at work as relevant to your organisation
  • Identify the main areas of own responsibility for health and safety in the workplace
  • Ensure Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 – 2003 are adhered to.
  • Explain the difference between a hazard and a risk
  • Understand how to conduct a risk analysis clearly and accurately described with the logical steps or stages in the process set out and may include own company risk assessment procedures and/or documentation
  • How to ensure the team is aware of the health and safety requirements in the workplace is clearly and accurately described. Examples may be given of how this happens e.g. H&S training, working parties etc
  • How to monitor health and safety in the workplace is clearly and accurately described. Examples of relevant procedures and/or practices may be used to enhance description

Recruitment, Selection and Induction – 1 day

At the end of the day delegates will be able to:

  • Identify recruitment needs, Create a job and people specification
  • Market the vacancy to attract appropriate applicants
  • Administer the recruitment process professionally
  • Recognise varied selection methods
  • Utilise appropriate selection methods for the vacancy
  • Interview/access candidates to fit the right person to the right role
  • Manage recruitment and selection within the organisation which compiles with all aspects of the law
  • Ensure successful induction objectives are planned in line with the appraisal process.

Existing Management – Coaching and Mentoring – STEP 2

Coaching and Mentoring – 1 day

This programme is aimed at providing the skills to train and coach employees.  Managers who have recently set new and challenging objectives will need help in ensuring they develop their team to achieve them. This training will enable them to make an effective contribution to the training and development of others. It will give delegates the basic skills and knowledge needed as a foundation from which they can later develop the specialist skills of identifying training needs, training design, training delivery and training evaluation.

At the end of the day delegates will be able to:

  • Understand what coaching is and why we need it
  • How to coach employees
  • Identify factors affecting the learning process
  • Understand different learning styles and their implication
  • Write training objectives and workplace outcomes
  • Understand the role of a mentor and how to support your mentee
  • Prepare and deliver a short piece of training
  • Build fun and participation into your learning events
