Overview

Our Fast Track Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2010 Administration training course has been designed to give Administrators  everything they need to know to begin using SharePoint 2010 to build commercial SharePoint solutions from the ground up.

The course is founded upon the extensive real-world implementation experience of our course authors, and also takes into account feedback from real developers about the topics they need to cover to meet deadlines with good solid architecture and code

Course Content

Hands On Exercises

The course will contain a substantial amount of Hands-On work. Delegates will be introduced to topics during theory sessions and these will be followed by lab exercises relating to the topic. Delegates will work on practical exercises which will reflect commercial scenarios.

  • Architecture & Capacity Planning

Hardware requirements of web servers, application servers and SQL servers, identifies the key differences in this new version.

  • Installing SharePoint 2010

Installing the product into a virtual PC, to include analysing system requirements, installation options and upgrade and patching options.

  • Using Central Administration

Configure farms, and working with managed accounts. Also includes deep knowledge on application management, system settings, monitoring, backup asnd restore, security general application settings and configuration wizards.

  • Service Application Architecture

This is a session working with the replacement of the Shared Services Provider. We will look at the fundamentals involved in managing services, and how to administer services. We’ll take a look at data and processing segmentation and multi-tenancy concepts for administrators.

  • Securing and Managing Sites

It is important to review the administration hierarchy of SharePoint, and how to work with the permissions and permission levels. We look at Security Groups and how permissions can be granted in the new environment.

  • Using PowerShell to Administer SharePoint 2010

STSADM has been superseded by PowerShell, we identify the cmdlets, functions and scripts an administrator needs to understand, and also how to use the SharePoint commands to manage the Farm, Web Applications, Site Collections and Webs to manage a SharePoint installation.

  • Managing Navigation & Governance

There a number of different types of navigation available and these are discussed in this module. These include breadcrumbs, portal site connections, tree view, team site navigation, publishing site navigation, and workspace options. Also included in this module is an overview of Governance for SharePoint 2010.

  • SharePoint 2010 Backup & Restore

This module discusses in depth strategies for effective content recovery in SharePoint 2010 and planning for Disaster Recovery. Also High Availability solutions are analysed including load balancing, SQL Database Mirroring, Failover Clustering, Read-Only Modes, HTTP Request monitoring and throttling and gradual site deletions.

  • Features & Solution Packages

SharePoint 2010 has a number of management requirements including the new Sandbox solution, and feature management.

  • Configuring & Managing Enterprise Search

In this module we see how Enterprise Search is planned, configured and implemented. This module also includes a review of FAST Search.

  • Monitoring SharePoint 2010

Here we look at how to monitor its health, using logs, dashboards and database services.

  • Managed Metadata Service

This new service allows users to quickly attach and find items using advanced metadata querying. In this module we see how to configure the service properly and how content types are managed.

  • Integrating Office

We need to see what features are available for the end users in Access, Word, Excel and Outlook!

  • Office Web Applications

This feature allows users to see Office applications hosted in the web browser. This module looks at the required software and configuration to enable this for end users.

  • PerformancePoint & Business Intelligence

This new service allows users to monitor and analyse business data and this module shows the administrator how to install, configure and implement BI services.

  • Content Management

This session is a quick look at the new features of Enterprise Content Management and how to implement and manage Document Sets.

  • SharePoint Designer 2010

Power Users will be looking to use SharePoint Designer to enhance their workflows. Administrators need to understand how to assign permissions, and also how to restrict access to data.

  • Business Connectivity Services

This is the new architecture for connecting to external data in SharePoint 2010. Administrators will need to understand how to make data available in the enterprise and how BCS is managed.

  • Building Workflow Solutions in SharePoint 2010

Administrators will learn how to initialize workflows, configure out of the box workflows, and how to edit and delete them. Also, they will learn how to manage workflows that have failed, and what tools are available to prototype and manage list based solutions.
